We are all like flowers. We blossom and grow into something beautiful over time, but without the light, we wither away into nothing. Without water, we become wilted and die. When it comes to people, I am not talking about literal light. When I say light, I mean positivity and love. Without those things, we are destined to live a life that is meaningless. Yes, we do need water to survive, but I also do not mean that in the literal sense. Our “water” is that one thing that keeps us striving towards our goal of becoming all that we can be. What is your water? What helps to keep you waking up in the morning and moving forward with your life? Whether it be your family, friends, pets, or something completely different, we all have that one thing. We all NEED that one thing.
We people say that life is short, they are not kidding. You really never know when you will draw your last breath or when someone close to you will pass. We live our lives always making plans for the future or doing things in the present that will help benefit us later down the road, but what are we getting from it right now? For example, Say that your whole life you wanted to become a doctor, so during high school you never went out and did anything and you stayed home and studied and were named valedictorian on your graduation day. You figured, Hey, I have my whole life ahead of me to have fun, I have plenty of time. So then you go straight to college after High School. You get a part time job and take as many credits as you are allowed to take at the college. Every night you get home, all you have time to do is study and get a little bit of sleep. Everyday you wake up exhausted and miserable, but hey, after graduation you’ll finally be a doctor and you can begin living your life! As your college years pass by, you see all your friends posting pictures about all the trips they have taken and all the fun they have been having, so you start to write down and plan all the things you would like to do after you graduate. This helps to get you by and makes you look forward to the future. Graduation day finally arrives and you cannot wait to go out and do all the things you never took a break to do. On your way home that night you get into a car accident and die.
I know how terribly morbid that example is, but what if that were to really happen? Take a look at your life and ask yourself, ”If I were to die tomorrow, would I be satisfied with how I lived my life?” I’m not saying that you should not go to school and take it seriously or that you should not have a job, but I’m saying that you need to make sure that you are also making time to do things that you will be able to look back on and smile. You need to make sure that you are spending some time building a life that is story worthy.
One of the most important things in life are relationships. Whether it be friendships, dating, or family, relationships are one of the most important building blocks in our lives. If we go through life building our lives with relationships with not so good people, then our lives will not be stable and will eventually fall apart due to a falling out or too much drama. But, if we build with strong healthy relationships, then our lives will be stable and strong. Again, life is too short to simply waste our time on people who are not worth it. I firmly believe we should love everybody. My practices as of lately have told me that we need to love everyone and not hold against them the way they are. We do not know why someone is mean. We do not know why someone hurts us. All we can do is show them love and keep going on our merry way. Over the past few months I have realized this. I do not want to surround myself with people who truly do not want my friendship and love. I do not want to be someone’s temporary fix. I want stable and long lasting friendships, but in order to have that, both people need to work for it. I’ve seen so many people stay in relationships that are just falling apart. Why be with someone that you cannot be 100% yourself around? Why be with someone who doesn’t like your other friends or who is always trying to pick a fight with you? Again, I am talking about all different relationships. Sometimes the best thing for us to do is to love them with our whole heart and move on.
Our relationship with ourselves is the most important. If we do not have a good relationship with ourselves, then we cannot have a good relationship with anyone. If we hate ourselves and are not happy, then it shows through our actions and behavior. We will put others down out of jealousy and to try to make ourselves feel better. But if we love ourselves and try to be the best we can be, our happiness will show through our attempts to help others better themselves and through our happy attitudes we show the world. We were all born with one body and one mind. We cannot completely alter ourselves to look the way we want, unless we pay for it, then I guess you can. You have to love what you were given. You have to love and treat your mind and body with respect, because if you don’t, eventually one day they will both give you problems that you could have prevented. You are you. No one else can be you. You have the power to make or break someone. You have the power to become something great. Take advantage of today and do something worthy of a story.
